Dear RSU 1 Community,

This letter is to inform you that two individuals associated with Bath Middle School recently tested positive for COVID-19. The known close contacts have been notified individually and excluded from school.  BMS is still on outbreak status and these two new cases, which are epidemiologically unrelated, will extend that status.

Unfortunately, case numbers are still high in Maine, with the highest number of new infections among young people. Please remember that our ability to maintain in-person school, complete the spring sport and activity seasons, and celebrate end-of-year events relies on everyone taking appropriate COVID precautions, including wearing a mask, maintaining social distance, avoiding large group gatherings, and washing hands. We all want to finish this year together, and we will need your support to do so.

As always, please monitor yourself/your student for signs and symptoms. Call a health care provider if symptoms start. It is important that you call a healthcare facility before you show up in person. Stay home if you are sick. The school was cleaned and disinfected upon notification of the positive case.

Questions for the school or concerns can be directed to Diana HIxon by calling 443-8270 or emailing dhixon@rsu1.org. For general COVID-19 questions, dial 211 (or 1-866-811-5695). You can also text your ZIP code to 898-211 or email info@211maine.org. Call a health care provider for questions about your symptoms. More information can be found at www.maine.gov/dhhs/coronavirus or www.cdc.gov/coronavirus

Sincerely,

Patrick Manuel
Superintendent of Schools
