Celebrated every year at the beginning of May, Screen-Free Week is an invitation for everyone, children, adults and entire communities, to switch off completely from staring at screens and take a well-deserved break from the digital world.

Hannah Keller, Isla Polizotto and Rose Strelneck have won the distinguished honor of an all expenses paid trip to France for the international ceremony of the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Three teams in New England were selected for this honor in the French American Friendship contest, sponsored by the Consulate General of France in Boston. Hannah, Rose and Isla shared their love of art by painting an interpretation of a mural in Paris originally and collaboratively painted by an American and French artist through the FAMA project.

April is poetry month and at Dike-Newell students have been learning all about poetry in library classes. Students discovered that poetry is a type of writing that attempts to stir a reader's imagination or emotions. Poetry appears in a great many forms and styles including nursery rhymes, concrete, haiku, acrostic and free verse.

The Bath Tech Culinary Arts team of Eleanor Nery and Gwen Weaver took first place this week at the local food competition held in Bangor through the University of Maine Orono Cooperative Extension. This is the second year in a row our culinary students have competed and won this contest. Congratulations!

Woolwich Central School athletes recently participated in the Special Olympics Swim event at the Bath Area YMCA. Since January, this group has been training on Free Style, Backstroke and being comfortable in the pool. Each students received a ribbon in their specific event.

Bath Middle School is excited to be collaborating with Bath Police Department to share a new program and education for our sixth grade students. LEADs (Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence) is a 10 week program led by Bath PD in 6th grade classes that focuses on goal setting, safe decision making and drug and alcohol prevention. 6th grade students will have weekly lessons until the end of the school year.

BMS is proud to have 12 seventh grade Seguin House students participate in a research symposium at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute recently. Students were sharing their green crab research from this past fall and also got the chance to meet other middle school student researchers, and scientists from GMRI, and one from NASA!

The third grade class at Phippsburg Elementary School created a banner for Banners Over Bath, which will be on display throughout the month of April. The theme this year is Flora and Fauna. Students sketched their ideas, transferred them to the banner and then painted them. The banner was sponsored by Liz Wyman, a Phippsburg resident. Thank you, Liz!

Bath Tech CNA students held their annual Teddy Bear Clinic today. The preschool children brought their favorite stuffies to get a physical and a certificate of health. In the Criminal Justice lab, the preschool students learned how to have their fingerprints done.

24 students from Bath Tech traveled to Bangor on March 15th to compete against other CTE schools in the Maine State SkillsUSA competition. Gold Awards were earned in Crime Scene Investigation, Architectural Drafting and Culinary; A Silver Award was earned in Baking and Pastry Arts; Bronze Awards were earned in Cabinet Making, Cosmetology, and Nursing Assisting; and First Place was awarded in the MRE Challenge. Our two gold teams are eligible for Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia. Way to go Bath Tech! We are proud of each of you!!
