Notice about Prevalence of Illnesses

After a review of our learning at November's Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum visit, this month’s GATE session, at WCS, continued the exploration of Inuit culture. Students assembled snow goggles in the morning and spent time in the afternoon learning about what Inuit people eat, how they stay warm, traditional Inuit homes and way of life, as well as the relationship between Inuit people and animals. We began a knot tying activity that we will continue next time we meet in January when we plan to further explore Inuit culture and traditions.

At the recent board meeting there were two groups of students in attendance. The football team shared their excitement about the 8-Man Large North MPA Good Sportsmanship Award they recently earned. Exchange students from Morse High School also attended and are pictured from left to right: Elsa Tuxen, Francesca Ferre, Akku Shaimerdenova, Lili LaBrosse, Moritz Scholze.

Three times a year BMS grade level students lead an activity for the whole student body. Eighth grade students shared highlights from their FLOW experience, spoke to students and staff about perseverance, and ended the Crew with a fun activity.

BMS is doing monthly character building themes and activities. November's theme was gratitude. BMS students donated 616 cans to the Bath Area Food Bank as part of way to spread gratitude beyond our school doors! We had a handful of students who took a trip to the BAFB today to unload and organize our school's donation.

Phippsburg Elementary School hosted their Friends and Family Thanksgiving meal. There was a great turn out and a delicious meal was enjoyed by all!

Morse football won the 8-Man Large North MPA Good Sportsmanship Award this fall. This past season each team was asked to select an opponent they felt was most deserving of receiving a sportsmanship award. Each school selected to receive this banner has displayed respect, fair play, honesty, and a love for the game. Morse football is very deserving of this award, which is reflective of the players and coaches in the program.

Good news! The Morse High School Library is a recipient of a Maine Humanities Council Discussion Project Grant for the 2022-2023 school year. The year-long program, books, author visit, and discussions will focus on the question: "How do diverse voices foster inclusion and build strong, vibrant communities?" The program is open to students, staff, and the community. The hope is that partnerships will be formed between Morse, community members, and local organizations. We will be working with staff, students, and school clubs to facilitate community outreach and leadership opportunities. The four discussions will be held November 3, December 8, February 6, and March 30, from 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM, in the library (Classroom 107). Hilary Eslinger is the group's facilitator. The four featured books are free to participants and available upon registration. Participants can keep the books. We have chosen books that provide "something for everyone": I Remember: Poems and Pictures of Heritage (art and poetry)- November 3rd Discussion They Called Us Enemy (graphic novel)- December 8th Discussion Sigh, Gone (memoir)- February 6th Discussion (Phuc Tran, the author of the book, will join our discussion.) Living Nations, Living Words: An Anthology of First Peoples Poetry (poetry)- March 30th Discussion The cost of this community program is approximately $8000, and the grant covers all expenses. For your convenience, please find attached the promotional flyer. This is a wonderful opportunity for our RSU1 learning community and local residents. This week Woolwich School reached their first PTA fundraising goal - the reward?Mr. Libby served the students lunch on Friday! They hope to reach their final goal of $10,000 by next Friday at the WCS Get Glowing Fun Run!
